Privacy recommendations:
BEST:
- uBlock origin
- Firefox (Firefox Focus for mobile)
- firefox focus automatically blocks ads!!
- Opting out of personalized ads/tracking on all devices. link here
General:
- Privacy Guides - "The collaborative privacy advocacy community". Lots of tips, recommendations, and guides. Kind of a one stop shop
- Ghostery - easy to use, nice interface. Shows statistics on who's tracking you. They also have their own private browser.
- Privacybadger - small and simple, also for blocking trackers
- DuckDuckGo - search engine and privacy essentials extension. Also has its own browser.
- DecentralEyes - Great, works with other ad/tracker blockers and helps sites not break with content blocking.
- Proton anything, but I'm super biased towards their VPN. They also have calendar, mail, drive, etc. I think eventually they're getting their own notes app too. Great for casual use but as always be wary if you're sending Sensitive Content.
- Brave - Browser based on privacy. Not bad but not my personal favorite. Lets you earn crypto rewards.
- DoNotTrack plugin for betterdiscord. 'Stops Discord from tracking everything you do like Sentry and Analytics.'
- AdGuard
Paywalls:
- 12ft.io - Disables javascript on sites and has an iOS shortcut to (maybe) let you get over paywalls. Great idea but doesn't always work.
- paywallreader.com
DNS
DNS: Domain Name System. DNS resolvers are servers that get the IP address of a website being accessed and are usually determined by your internet service provider by default unless you reconfigure it. DNS filters (a type of web filter) use the system to prevent access to certain domains or IP addresses placed on a blocklist, usually things like porn or scam sites. These are used by schools and companies to prevent you from going to harmful sites by accidentally clicking links but mostly to block content. If you have a filter for personal use, it can be another layer of protection against malware and phishing but :))))) most importantly ::::)))))))) it can be used to block advertisements and other shit you just don't like !!
There's a lot of stuff related to DNS out there. Here are two free things for now
- ControlD DNS Leak test. Has good information further down the page too.
This unintended exposure allows these entities to log your browsing habits, view websites you've visited, and potentially sell this data.
- ControlD DNS Servers. Several different options that you can set up automatically right now, also with customizability.
Music
FUCK spotify stop using it
"You'll own nothing and you'll be happy"
Genuinely might write a long blog/rant about how ridiculous it is to pay for something you'll never own. None of it is yours. Internet goes down or you can't pay? Womp womp, you have nothing. Current spotify premium price: 11.99$ mo
- Article and info about NewPipe (mobile app) from BadGraph1csGhost
- Just block ads on youtube and use that for listening on your computer. UBlock origin works best.
- dvd/cd readers that you can use to rip cds are usually not more than 25$. On ebay most are less than 20 and the amount of use and music you get out of one makes it worth it imo
- mp3 players - self explanatory. more detail below
- RadioSure - another option for listening on your computer. Skin customizability!!
- Lucida - download music from popular streaming sites
- Possible useful took: clemtine music player
- As usual, check internet archive
- Stacher.io. Download videos and music from YT. May also let you download from spotify?
My Case

Current setup and stats. No ads or dealing with companies ever. Full ownership and digital AND physical copies of a big chunk of my stuff
- MP3 Player: $35.99
- SanDisk 128GB MicroSD card: ~$18.99
- Current length of use: 11 months
- Song count: 822. Free using My Methods or buying a cd (bought all mine used at 1-15$) and ripping it. Gonna estimate this at about 150$ but The Collection has been accumulating over several years.
- Album count (not counting CDs that haven't been ripped): 86
- Estimated total: $204.98
How does this compare? These will include the cost of the existing CD collection.
- 11 months of spotify premium in addition to existing ~$150 CD collection: $291.12
- Only buying every ALBUM on my mp3 player digitally at full price: Hard to say, but assuming albums are $9-10 we have $774-$860
- Another comparison: my chud friend who's been paying for spotify premium for ~4 years and has ~10 copies of his own of things: $538.77 :(
Just for fun
